RemoDAQ-8000/9000 controllers applied in VDR (voyage data recorder)

一、VDR introduction

　VDR(voyage data recorder) is the specialized equipment with the complex system which

could store the information of vessel position,  dynamic state, physical condition, orders and

operation, at certain time before and after the accident of the vessels in the way of safety and

recovery. It is called ship's black box. In December, 2004, the 79th conference of IMO MSC

officially passed the amendment of 5th chapter in SOLAS enforcing the vessels of 3000 gross

tons or more built before July 1, 2007 to install VDR or S-VDR before July 1, 2010.July 1. 

All the vessels in the international navigation have to be loaded with S-VDR or VDR. 

.Considering overall the anti-interference capacity, operating reliability, hardware cost,

 installment and maintenance, most recent VDR are designed to adopt the way of multibus .

二、RemoDAQ-8000/9000 applied in VDR 

　Analog acquisition modules，digital acquisition modules，power acquisition modules and 

system monitoring device need to exchange the data with VDR host computer adopting the 

master-slave structure. The network of the VDR host computer will send the inquiry orders

actively to these modules in turn and the modules will respond accordingly after receiving the orders.  

These modules have a handful of data to transmitted ,and distributed dispersedly, so Gemotech 

RemoDAQ-8000/9000 data acquisition modules and embedded controller could achieve , looking at Fig 2.

1.RemoDAQ-9X21;

programmable controller with Ethernet interface，could get the data remotely 

as a Modbus/TCP client-side，also could be the connector of Modbus/TCP server 

and HMI/SCADA software. RemoDAQ-9X21 adopts AMD-80188-40M CPU，

builtin ROMDOS，1.5MB Flash（512KB used for users’ application program），

640KB SRAM（384KB used inpower down protection）.

RemoDAQ9X21 have 4 serial ports and support 4~8 I/O

expansion slots, convenient for configurating the fields I/O modules.       

2. RemoDAQ-9017: 8-channel analog input module, could gather the information of steering

wheel, helm angle, accelerator, angle of thread through the sensors.

3.RemoDAQ-9050; 16-channel digital I/O module, set up DI or DO by DIP switch. Digital

acquisitionmodules mainly gather the information of spindle speed, driving bell,

emergency call bell, back tomake bell, water-tight doors, fire doors, rudder alarm,

main alarm, fire alarm, and fire police,bow stern doors. When some points are far,

we could realize it using RemoDAQ-8000 seriesconnected to RS-485 of RemoDAQ-9X21

serials to expand.The products of Gemotech based on RS-485 and CAN bus

have been widely applied in VDR or SVDR，and receive favorable comment.
